Underscore music offers a unique angle on film music composition due to an obsession for all things rhythmic and percussive and a love of acoustic instruments to tell the story and add the essential human element.
The use of extended techniques on piano, unusual percussion instruments, analogue synths and live strings is a favourite for Jared. Jared also integrates sound design into his scores by creating, layering and manipulating sounds to subtly build ambience and mood in a scene.
Underscore draws influence from film composers like Cliff Martinez — a percussionist/composer from LA, Stuart Copeland of the band ‘The Police’ who is a film score composer these days, Ennio Morricone, Thomas Newman, and Danny Elfman whose scores for Tim Burton films are wonderful.
