JARED UNDERWOOD

Jared Underwood is an award winning composer and musician. Since graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a classical percussionist and AFTRS as a screen music composer he has been creatively engaged in a wide variety of musical and artistic collaborations with film makers, advertising agencies, production companies, game developers, fashion designers, artists, contemporary dancers, bands and musicians.

Most recently Jared held a full time position as in house composer at We Love Jam Studios Sydney for 18months in which time he composed the music for numerous TV commercials for Optus, Samsung, Hyundai, McDonalds, Australian Olympic Team, Tresemme, Best & Less, Ferrero and more.

Working under is electronica moniker BATTERIE, he has written game soundtracks for many iPhone/Android games including – OTTTD, One More Line, One More Dash, PLATO, One More Jump and Thumb Drift which has been downloaded more than 10 Million times worldwide. As BATTERIE he releases original music and performs live shows –some highlights have been supporting New York group Gang Gang Dance at the Sydney Opera House & cult Japanese Hip Hop group Cibo Matto in Sydney. His music is available on itunes, soundcloud and band camp. A debut album is in the works for 2017 release.

Jared won TropScore 2013 a competition run by TROPFEST and APRA where more than 600 entrants composed music to a short film commissioned for the competition, Jared performed his winning score live to 70,000 people in the Domain at TROPFEST.

In 2011 he won ‘Best Original Score’ at TROPFEST, for the film A Desperate Deedby director Matt Bird. In June 2011, Jared won ‘The Jury Choice Gold Medal’ at the Park City Film Music Festival (Utah -USA) for his score to film Cold Sore, directed by Matt Bird. Most recently Jared composed the score for Matt Birds TROPFEST2012 film tilted Min Min.

Other commercial composition work Jared has done include – music for Relity TV series Farmer wants a Wife , I will Survive and The Mole. He has also composed the soundtrack for National Geographic Channel documentary ‘Tales By Light’ Series 1, Episode 6.

Jared has been a member of Sydney cinematic pop band CODA for 14 years, which has been twice nominated for an ARIA award. CODA has performed at Opera House multiple times, at Vivid Sydney Festival, Adelaide Festival, Sydney Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, The Big Day Out and Peats Ridge festival. Internationally CODA has played at the Bangkok International Arts Festival (2007) and the Java Jazz festival in Jakarta Indonesia (2008). CODA’s music has also been used for feature films including Red Hill and has been used for contemporary dance, TV ads and documentaries.

Jared was a member of Sydney post rock band PROP whose members included Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton (The Presets). Prop recorded one album titled Small Craft, Rough Sea. Jared played drums with dance music group Grafton Primary, who toured extensively in 2010-2011, playing Nem Catacoa festival in Columbia.

Jared has composed and performed original music in collaboration with Flutter Lyon for the 2010 Australian Fashion Week catwalk parade for Australian designer Konstantina Mittas.In mid 2010, Jared collaborated with video artist Lauren Brincat to create an interactive performance work that was presented at the Anna Schwartz art gallery in Sydney.

As a pop music producer Jared has worked with soul pop singer FANTINE to create her single ‘Eleven’.

Stefan Skarbek (Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse), Daniel Johns (SilverChair), Luke Steele (Empire Of The Sun), Hugo Race (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Antony Partos (composer for film Animal Kingdom), Jono Ma (Los Valentinos), Grafton Primary, The Herd and Melanie Paine (Nuvelle Vague). As a live performer Jared has played with – The Whitlams, Grafton Primary, Delta Goodrem, Brian McFadden, Lovers Electric, KingTide, Lenka, Ian Moss, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Jenny Morris, The McClymonts and Jimmy Little.
