The Daryl Pratt Sextet is a contemporary original jazz ensemble lead by Vibraphone player and composer Daryl Pratt. Jared plays drums in the group and was one of the founding members of the group starting in 2009.
The composed sections of the music are quite intricate, detailed and unusual but to contrast that, Daryl encourages lots of interpretation, improvisation and interaction from the band members.
The ensemble has recently recorded a studio album in the new studio facilities at the Sydney Conservatorium of music. On the live scene the ensemble has been playing at Venue 505 in Sydney, a specialist new jazz venue in Redfern.
Daryl Pratt is head of the percussion department at the Sydney Conservatorium of music. He has a background in contemporary classical music performance and education. Born and raised in the USA where he studied composition and played Vibes in jazz groups. He moved to Austrailia in the 1980’s.
As a composer and group leader Daryl’s other ensembles over the years have been ‘AtmaSphere’ with drummer David Jones, ‘The Chad Wackerman Group’, Chad being a world renowned American drummer (who played with Frank Zappa for 10 years) and ‘Sonic Fiction’ with revered Sydney drummer Andrew Gander and award winning Guitarist James Muller.
The Daryl Pratt Sextet is influenced by recent developments in improvised music, blending acoustic and electric music, the band’s repertoire features new pieces by Daryl designed especially for this outstanding line-up.
